On January 22, 2016 Immediately following the March this month will be a traditional Latin Solemn High Pontifical Mass at the faldstool, offered by His Excellency Edward J. Slattery, bishop of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It will be offered at 4 p.m. at Saint Mary Mother of God church at 5th and H streets, Northwest, in the District.
Several priests -- diocesan, Ordinariate and Fraternity of Saint Peter among them -- will assist at the pontifical High Mass. The propers of the Mass (the red vestment feast of Saints Vincent and Anastasius) will be sung in Gregorian chant by the parish schola of men. The ordinary of the Mass will be sung by the choir of Holy Innocents parish from New York City. Known as the "Vox in Rama" choir, they will sing Hans Leo Hassler's "Missa Secunda".
The Mass is being organized and funded by the Paulus Institute for the Propagation of Sacred Liturgy, which also sponsored the 2010 pontifical High Mass offered by Bishop Slattery at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.
SATURDAY, January 9th, 2016 - 6:30pm.Title: Hodie, Christus Natus Est!
Music: Featuring Poulenc 4 motets for Christmas, Lauridsen, Smith, and Howells
beautiful works, including the 4-Poulenc Christmas motets (rarely heard, but definitely worth the trip!).
Fairly regular songs for the season, are the Pearsal "In Dulci Jubilo", Britten's "Hymn to the Virgin" for double choir, and "People Look East", by local composer Stephen Carriciolo.
Of the more traditional, yet fairly unknown, to the general public (sung often in churches), are the Lullaby songs by Howells, Warlock, and my personal favorite, the Suo Gan.

As Emeritus Pope Benedict addressed to young people in New York in 2008: "It is from within the Church that you too will find the courage and support to walk the way of the Lord. Nourished by personal prayer, prompted by silence, shaped by the Church's liturgy, you will discover the particular vocation God has for you. Embrace it with joy. You are Christ's disciples today".
